Why Single Mom Sports Tips?

My wife Terri asked me that question.  For years now I have coached numerous sports teams through out our community.  From local town teams to select all star teams.  Yet the greatest satisfaction I get is when I see the kids accomplish something that they never thought possible.

Kids have the ability to dream that anything is possible, when most adults have quit dreaming at all. We have to help keep that dream alive.

Keeping that dream alive has to be especially difficult for a single mother who is many times trying be both Mom and Dad to their children.

So I wanted to build a online community to encourage single moms.

I want you to know that this isn’t just a place to ask about what glove I need to buy or what is a first down.  Though we are going to talk about that.

I am going to try and help you understand what you child is thinking while their playing. Many times we get caught up in the game ( that includes me too) and forget about what really is important.  Just know that it doesn’t matter at what level or how good your child is, if playing sports isn’t a positive experience it could have a negative effect on them in a lot of different ways.

I have talked to and counselled many athletes on what they were looking to get out of their sports experience.  And time after time what the child wants isn’t close to what the parent wants.

Believe me I know, I have had the blessing of coaching my 14 year old daughter who runs cross country and plays basketball.  I also have had a great experience coaching my 10 year old son’s football, basketball and baseball teams.  So I have been on both sides of the fence as a coach and a parent.  I have many times had to sit down with them both to see what their goals and desires are, not mine.

I do believe after playing Football, being an All- Conference / All-District Basketball player and a 3 time All-Conference/ All-District Baseball player in High School, Being Drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies and playing four years in their organization and 15 years of coaching Youth Football, Boys and Girls AAU Basketball, Baseball and Girls Softball that I can help single moms find the help they are looking for.

So lets work together to create a healthy and safe sports environment to provide our children with a lifetime of special memories.

God Bless,

Darrell
